Hi everyone!!!
Thought it was time to let you know why I appear to have dropped off
the face of the earth.
In July, I developed a progressive neuromuscular disease. Since
July, I have lost motor function in my arms and legs. So far, the
doctors have not been able to come up with a diagnosis. I have
become totally dependent and am now primarily in a wheel chair.
I have moved to Anchorage Alaska and am living with my oldest son
Jerry. Being totally dependent, I needed the help of my family.
Today, I started high dose prednisone and we are hopeful that this
will reduce or stop the symptoms. At this point, I am pain free and
the doctor thinks this is not a life threatening event.
There is much to be thankful for and I am confident that this thing
can be turned around. I am not able to write or to type, but will
try to keep all of you updated on my condition.
Winter here is beautiful and it is great to be with my family.
Prayers are appreciated.
Aggie.

Beverly has been experiencing a battle with lung cancer.
She writes the email below.
I think part of this disease is having a positive attitude and I
try to keep one. It was quite a shock to me as I was never a
smoker. But I have learned that lung cancer does not always affect
people that smoke. I have many things in my favor a very supportive
family including my husband, and 2 grown children and a few
grandchildren. Plus about 16 months ago we moved into a wonderful
Del Webb golfing community in central Florida. I don't know if you
recognize the name Del Webb but he is a popular builder in the
southwest for senior active adults, he is now building pretty
aggressively in Florida. We love the community and its still
growing currently over 750 homes and build out over 3,000 so we are
in the beginning stages. We have met many wonderful neighbors from
all over the US, so its fun.
In addition to the above I have a wonderful Oncology doctor and
team (they are affiliated with Mayo Clinic in Wisconsin. So I get
outstanding care. I have my good and bad times but mainly good, my
doctor put me on a drug called Treceva that has had pretty good
success with some lung patients, in addition to that I have a IV
drip done once every 2 weeks called Avistain. Between the 2 its
keeping me alive and pretty much able to maintain a somewhat normal
life. Lung cancer is a killer and I know eventually it will get me,
but not yet...I intend to live my life as normal for as long as
possible.
Its nice to hear from the classmates and to go on the website
occasionally and see what is going on. As I don't get back often to
Oregon (although I was there last May visiting my mother and sister
and family that live in Newport). Oregon is such a beautiful state.
We were very lucky to grow up in such a wonderful state with all the
beauty and a great healthy lifestyle. I am very proud of Oregon
and have bought back a few of our friends when my husband and I make
our trips back to Oregon, needless to say they are all impressed
with Oregon.

Woman's passion turns into championship
She didn't set out to win a gold medal swinging a sword. Then again, she
didn't set out to be a couch potato either.

Teri doing
a bench press of 70# - that's "1/2 my body weight",
my trainer took the picture so i could remember i DID it, and did it 10 reps
times 3...
and jan '09, the best i could do was maybe 1-2 with just the 55# bar...
is that inspiring to get you started?)
After
graduating from U of O in Music (pipe organ), got
married and moved to Salt Lake City, started working
in a hospital, got registered as a medical
technologist, been doing that now for 40-some years,
and just retired (mostly).
Along
the way, I have explored Zen Buddhism (became a Zen
monk); explored Martial Arts (10 years of Aikido
training); and now at 65 just got my Black Belt in
HaiDong GumDo (a 2-handed Sword Art).
I've also become a Massage Therapist; and a Master
Gardener... it's really hard to be bored when there
is so much to see & do....
