A treasure hunt...
If you find all the murals in
downtown Springfield, you will have covered downtown.
Christina has shared some of the murals with us in past
articles, but there are more.
The Springfield City Hall has
a wonderful display of pictures of the various styles of
houses in the old, Washburne Historic District
in the downtown residential area (those houses would
be a great picture story). The gal who did the display told
us that Springfield was a prime area for homes built in the
various architectural styles of the times. The materials
for building were plentiful (wood, etc.) and the expense was
low without any shipping costs to speak of. I used to
think...old houses
, now
I think....treasures.
"The Pump," (7th and
Main) seems to have replaced "The Spring Drive-In" and "Rishers"
as the place to hang out for the gray haired population of
Springfield. I studied the faces of the customers, but
didn't recognize anyone...and they didn't recognize me.
They are open for breakfast...and it's very good. A new
found treasure...

Maria Plouff
and her family have owned and
operated this familiar store on Main
Street for many years. Yes, I got to
hug Maria.

Window
shopping...you could spend hours
in the antique store next door. You
know..."oh, my grandmother had one
of those." You would be amazed to
see value $$$ put on some of these
collectibles today.

Patriotism is
alive and well in Springfield! The
red corvette parked in front fit
right into the color scheme.
