This is our Great
Rotary Duck Race. The ducks are dropped in the
Willamette River at the Autzen Foot Bridge and float
down to just past the Ferry Street Bridge, near Valley
River Center. We had a record year with the Rotarians,
including Earl, selling over 73,000 little
sunglass-wearing ducks at $5 a piece. (Last year they
sold over 58,000). For the past 12 years, the ad
agency that I work for does all the advertising for the
event, designs the tickets, posters, etc., and I write
up the stories for a special Duck Race section in the
local newspaper. It's Lane County's largest fund
raiser and the second largest duck race in the U.S.
(Yes, they hold duck races other places!) Funds raised
go to agencies in this area who work tirelessly to
prevent child abuse. Over the 20 years we've had the
Rotary Duck Race, over $4 million has been raised!
