Black Butte Babes Have a Ball
.. AGAIN.
This year 14 women from the Spingfield/Thurston Class of 1961 gathered at
Black Butte. We were missing several ladies from last year but
gained three new recruits We all enjoyed getting reacquainted, had a lot
of laughs, good food and stories to tell. Participating this year
were Jan Fochtman Hinrichs, Wanda Langdon Putnam, Sandy Hemmingsen Kirk,
Marilyn Evans Howard, Linda Kindrick Ireland, Nancy Fent Prociw, Sharon
Prociw Skinner, Carolee Tomseth Campbell, Jackie Hartman Pender, Arline
Keck Wilson, Carol Rombold Chapman, Dorothy Naylor, Judy Feiereisen Von
Hagel, and Jeralyn Schnell Dykstra.
The sun came out enough to allow some to get a good walk in and for three
of us to ride the Black Butte bike trails. At this point the bike
riders (Arline Keck Wilson, Sharon Skinner Prociw and moi) would like to
point out that we were NOT LOST, we were simply MISS-guided. We
turned a 5 mile ride into 15 on purpose! We truly enjoyed going
around in circles.
The two hours spent in Sisters was a nice diversion too. We're happy
to report that not quite so much money was dropped at The Stitching Post
this year. Unfortunately for Jackie Hartman Pender, the Snow Cap Ice
Cream store was closed!
The food was great (thanks to good organization from Jan and Linda and
their "food groups". We lucked out Saturday evening with a
cocktail hour on the deck before the thunder and lightning hit! Following
dinner we had a little birthday celebration for Nancy Fent Prociw who
claims she is 59 again. She was overwhelmed by all the insulting
birthday cards but still managed to successfully extinguish all the
candles on her cake, negating the need for a fire extinguisher.
Arline Keck Wilson kept us laughing with stories of "life on the
farm" (the wiggly pigglies story was best). She also provided
music and a sing-along for us Sunday morning, which was a treat!
That lady can actually sing and play the guitar both at the
same time!!
As much as we appreciated our housing, it was mentioned that next year we
will need geriatric bunks! Thank you to those who bravely took the
upper bunks this time. Next year you get the beds.
And next year may see a new organizer and new venue. You may see an
invitation for women to join a "Class of '61 Classy Caper at the
Coast". Or something. (Probably not a cruise to
Mazatlan.) Whatever it is will be something fun!
