Well, our 32nd ODELL LAKE EXTRAVAGANZA was another
successful get together for all THE ODELL LAKE
OLDIES!!!!!!!!We had a total of 28 classmates this year
including a couple of rookies, Mike Gehrman and Bob
Jorgenson along with Mick Risher who hadn't been to the
extravaganza for many years. The weather was mostly good
and this trip was the smoothest in recent memory...... Of
course, who can remember????????????
Once again we invaded Manley's in Crescent for lunch,
libations, pool, video poker and plenty of conversation.
Jack Starmer and Roger Hansen met us but couldn't come to
the lake, pleading previous commitments.....
CHICKENS!!!!!! John Hales, Fred Dellinger and Larry
Bruhn engaged in their annual pool struggle and I suspect
Bruhn was victorious. Mel Paxton, Jim Thompson Jim
Baumgartner and Dave Love fed the video Machines while that
wiley Richard Tennent won big with a $600 payout!!!!!!!!
We retired to our digs and got into the swing of
things. While we were preparing for our BBQ steak, baked
potato, salad and french bread repast, Jack Hathaway came
off the lake with the all time EXTRAVAGANZA RECORD
CATCH.... A 31 inch, 15 lb lake trout.......CONGRATS
JACK !!!!!!!!!!! The evening continued with some small
time poker, tall tales, music and lots of fun.
Saturday, Jack Hathaway, Russ Harris, Jack McCreary,
John Harper, Larry Bruhn and Jim Thompson, our fisherfolk,
tried their luck with lackluster results. The golfers,
Darrell Linklater, Tom Fountain and Dave Hollandsworth
headed for the links. Brian Whitlow joined us while the
rest of us played some cards, napped and relaxed before our
lunch of BBQ burgers, beans and chips. After lunch,
Dellinger broke out the horseshoes and the games were
on... Fred, Bob Jorgenson, Mike Geherman, Darrell
Linklater, Tom Fountain. John Hales and the worst
horseshoe thrower of all time, ME, vied for the championship
with the MILLER team of Linklater and Dellinger eaking out a
come from behind victory!!!!!!!!! Dave Sears, Bill
Elliot, Jim Pedersen, Bill Erickson, Bill Guempelein, Dick
Jones, Dave Love, Mick Risher, Richard Tennent and Mel
Paxton offered words of wisdom and advice as to the talent
level of the competitors......... You can just imagine
some of the praise!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wayne Compton did his usual candid camera routine with
some superb shots while Bill Elliot was our DJ and McCreary
supplied the discs. Our traditional banquet of baked
halibut, baked salmon, baked potatoes, salad and french
bread was particularly good this year and compliments go to
the chefs, who shall remain anonymous to protect
the guilty........... After dinner, two tables for poker,
noise and lots of laughs.... Perhaps enough to last til
next year!!!!
SUNDAY MORNING AFTER BREAKFAST WAS OUR ANNUAL AWARDS
CEREMONY........... Jack Hathaway was the obvious GRIZ
FISHERMAN award winner while THE SORRIEST ------- FISHERMAN
award went to Jim Thompson(I Think). The PAIN IN THE ASS
award was a close race this year with the nominees being Jim
Baumgartner, Dave Sears and of course Harper....... Sears
had a small lead but tradition was served and John Harper
was the proud recepient for an unprecidented 32nd
consecutive year!!!!!! Rookie awards went to Mike Geherman
and Bob Jorgenson and we hope they had a good time and will
return next year????????
